Harsh Words Citing references from Steve Jobs’ speech delivered in 2007, people started hurling strong words at Apple top executives. Eight years ago, at a conference Jobs had said, “Who wants a stylus?!” “You have to get ’em, put ’em away, you lose ’em, yuck. Nobody wants a stylus.” He is also believed to have told his biographer Walter Isaacson that, “as soon as you have a stylus, you’re dead.” On the size of iPad Pro, the famed tablet from Apple, faultfinders leave no stone upturned to criticize Tim Cook, who was criticized for taking a different stand altogether from his predecessor Steve Jobs. Our Stand To this, we want to counter-argue, not to defend Apple or any of its executives, but to explain why a reputed brand breaks its own unwritten rules to meet the demands of emerging markets. It is accepted by all that if a brand wants to grow, it has to make necessary changes in their product design, prices, features, specifications and more. Apple has done the same. Time Lapse What was trendy and good 8 years ago cannot be even functional today; maybe in those days, stylus was an unnecessary piece to keep in pockets. But today, people have all the luxury to keep a stylus either in their pockets or in the case of the smartphones or tablets. Moreover, it gives your fingers some rest as your fingers may have got cramps by constant tapping and typing on a screen. Paradigm Shift in Consumers’ Choice Apple has also broken its “small screen” shell as they launched bigger screens with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The brand has noticed a paradigm shift in how consumers use a smartphone. As Apple has seen that smartphones are replacing desktop computers and laptops, they introduced larger screens for consumers, who can explore web, watch photos and movies and do many other things. Moreover, by increasing the size of iPhones’ screen, Apple took their competitors by storm. iPad Pro: For Professionals… They didn’t spare iPad Pro; the extraordinary size of this tablet provides forage to critics to come up with heavy arsenal. Let me tell those censorious souls that during its event, Apple made it clear that this iPad Pro is very useful to design professional and architects, who are supposed to create designs of buildings. Hence, its purpose is rather commercial than the personal. Cook’s decisions of launching Apple Watch and buying Beats were also condemned by Apple haters; but everybody knows that after successful Beats deal, Apple had seen a rise in their share prices from $54 to $110 post the death of Jobs. The Bottom Line Jobs always believed in quieting his critics by launching superior products and services. And sales figures of Apple products speak volumes of Apple’s success. Despite relentless criticism, nobody can ignore the fact that within the three months of its release, the iPhone 6 has generated 71.5 million unit sales. You may like to read:
